Another day out can include taking the Furness line trains to Lancaster and then getting a train to the Lakes Line which runs from Oxenholme to Windermere via Kendal. This line also has stunning scenery, historic towns, a wide variety of attractions and plenty of walking routes. Have a look at www.lakesline.co.uk for more details.
For a further excursion, take the train to Carnforth and change there for the Leeds- Morecambe services along The Bentham line to Skipton and the heart of the Yorkshire Dales. There are walks from the stations, historic attractions and typical dales scenery. The Bentham Line also connects with the Settle & Carlisle line and so round trps are possible.
You could spend a day along the very scenic Furness Line around the shores of Morecambe Bay, which also has international wildlife designations, and along the Cumbrian Coast Line with its historic centres like Ravenglass, Whitehaven and Maryport. Along the Furness Line you could stop off for a cup of tea in the famous Brief Encounter station refreshment room at Carnforth or enjoy the Victorian elegance of Grange over Sands or Ulverston.
Have a look at the Northern Rail and First TransPennine Express websites for their Days Out tickets and special offers. Take advantage of the Day Ranger tickets and Duo tickets. Alternatively, pop in to Carnforth, Grange, Ulverston or Barrow station booking offices and talk to the friendly staff. Stay a bit longer and get to know the Furness Line, Morecambe Bay and Cumbria a bit better.
